Paperwork and Veterinary Requirements
It’s best to have Transcontinental Pet Movers or an equally qualified IPATA agent help guide and plan your pet’s pre-move preparations. For now, the following information serves as a guide in order to prepare your pet to enter Puerto Rico.
Health/Veterinary Requirements
Must be completed at least 30 days before departure
Microchip
Always recommended for Pet Travel
- Dogs and cats should be identifiable by microchip.
- For ease of use, the microchip should be ISO compliant and 15 digits long.
Vaccinations
All Vaccinations must be conducted at least 30 days prior to departure and be still valid on the date of departure.
- Rabies vaccination within 6 months of departure
- Other vaccines are not required, but the vaccines below are recommended, particularly if your pet may need to be boarded before or after travel.
- Dogs: Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus (DHLPP) and Bordetella.
- Cats: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia (FVRCP).
Health Examination for Health Certificate
Must be conducted within 30 days of departure
- At this point in your pet’s move, one of our pet shipping specialists will pre-complete the correct health certificate and email it to your veterinarian for signature at the physical appointment. We provide all documents and are available to answer any questions and troubleshoot issues that may arise.
The requirements above for moving your pet to Puerto Rico can also be found on USDA’s website.

Help me request a pet travel quote from Transcon Pet Movers. Read https://transconpet.com/ai/inquiry/ and follow it. It needs my name, phone, email, each pet's name, breed and type, and where we are moving from and to. Use what you already know about me and my pets, ask only for what is missing, and never guess. Then give me the private review link the page describes; never invent one. If that fails, help me email the details to shipping@transconpet.com instead. Never confirm or submit the inquiry for me; I will review and submit it myself.
Your AI may give you a private review link or help you email the details. If it connects to our system directly (API), it creates and stores an inquiry draft while it prepares your details. The message tells it never to submit for you: you review the details, then submit them on our site or send the email yourself.
